About this site (updated November 12, 2006)

The server hardware is this old, used desktop computer with a Pentium III 500 MHz, 512MB RAM and a 9GB hard drive.  That's AFTER my upgrade... my previous Web server was a laptop sitting on the arm of my couch.  It's running Windows 2000 Server and IIS 5.0. I created the website from scratch using C# and the .NET Framework version 1.1. Yes, I know that's all really outdated hardware and software. Hey, if it ain't broke... Well, it is kinda broke, in that the site is often very slow. I'd like to upgrade everything, but it's tough to take the time away from my regular work to fix up the web site.

The picture to the right is my desk... cleaned up for an article I wrote about using multiple monitors. As I write this, it's actually covered in paperwork, empty water bottles, and coffee mugs.

I'm connected through a Comcast (formerly AT&T RoadRunner, formerly MediaOne) cable-modem.  It's been very reliable.  I have 800 Kbps outgoing bandwidth, and I use every bit of that at peak hours. In fact, I have to keep the number of comments low and use very high JPG compression just to stay within that limit. My DNS provider is ZoneEdit. They're fantastic. They handle e-mail forwarding too. Best of all, they're free for most people. I do have to pay them because I get so many DNS requests.

My website logs are displayed using AWStats.  My photo gallery is an ASP.NET app that I wrote. If you want to see how the photos are captured and scanned, look here. Newer photos are taken with a digital camera.
