Monkeys : Lemurs : Everything : Animals : Ring-Tailed Lemurs
More than twenty pictures of Lemurs, including pictures of a baby lemur that could walk in and out of the cage because he was small enough to fit through the bars at the Southwick Zoo in Massachusetts.

Animal: Ring-Tailed Lemur

Species: Lemuridea

Lifespan: Lemurs live to be about 18 years old.

Size & Weight:T A mature Ring-tailed Lemur is approximately 15 to 18 inches in body length, and weighs 5 to 8 lbs.

Habitat:The Ring-tailed Lemur is primary found in South and Southwestern Madagascar. They spend more time on the ground than any other specie of Lemur but the majority of their time is still spent in trees. Their hierarchy is distinct and female Lemurs stay int heir troop for their entire life. Male Lemurs leave their troop between the ages of 3 and 5 to look for a new troop and potential mates.

Diet:  Ring-tailed Lemurs eat leaves, insects, fruit,  and flowers.

*Fun Facts*

  • When traveling on the ground, the Ring-tailed Lemur keeps its tail high in the air like a flag.
