Pictures of bats, mostly Malayan Flying Foxes. Malayan Flying Foxes are primarily found in rainforest habitats throughout Southeast Asia. Bats are very hard to photograph, because they prefer the dark, and I don't like to use flash because of their sensitivity to light. Bats are rarely dangerous to humans.
Flying foxes are one of the world's largest bat species with wingspans of up to 6ft and an average weight of 2.5lbs. Bats are the only flying mammals and are mainly active at night. Some bats use echolocation to find food but the Flying Fox relies on vision. Their diet consists of fruits, flowers, nectar, pollen, and leaves. Bats in general may have a bad reputation but they are helpful in controlling insect populations and pollinating many crops including figs and bananas.
