Pictures of burrowing mammals and animals that live in underground dens, including the skunk, otter, groundhog/woodchuck, dwarf mongoose, chipmunk, prairie dog, mole, meerkat, and rabbit.

 | Chipmunks Chipmunks are small, burrowing rodents which belong to the group of ground squirrels known as Marmots. There are 25 separate species of chipmunk, all but two of which are native to western North America. The exceptions to this are the Siberian Chipmunk (Tamias sibiricus) and the Eastern Chipmunk (Tamias striatus). The photographs on this page are all of Eastern Chipmunks, which is the only species found in the easternmost part of the United States and Canada. |
| | Dwarf Mongoose Pictures of the dwarf mongoose, a small animal that lives in packs of 8 to 20. Usually the dominant maile and female reproduce, and other females help the dominate female nurse her offspring. |

| | | Moles Pictures of moles. Moles live underground by digging tunnels. They'll eat bugs (specifically, earthworms and grubs) that they find underground. They're typically considered pests, because they make holes in your lawn. |
| | -tn.jpg) | Prairie Dogs Prairie dog pictures that I've taken at zoos. I misspelled it prarie dog for years. |
| -tn.jpg) | Rabbits The collection of my wild rabbit pictures. |
| | Raccoons Raccoon pictures that I've taken at my house. Raccoons are highly recognizable despite their nocturnal lifestyles. This may be related to the fact that they also seem to be syananthropes, or wild animals who are willing and able to live among humans. |
| -tn.jpg) | Skunks Pictures of skunks, including a baby skunk, that I've taken at my house. |
| | Woodchucks The Woodchuck (Marmota Monax) is also commonly called "groundhog", and in some areas, "whistle pig". Its genus, Marmota, includes a number of species of rodent, collectively known as Marmots. Marmots are technically classified as a type of squirrel, but the woodchuck's size, habitat and behaviors differ significantly from what we commonly know as "squirrels". |
