Animal: Colobus Monkey (Old World Monkey)

 

Species: There are four different species of Black and White Colobus Monkeys including  the Guerze, Angolan Colobus, Guinea Forest Black Colobus,  and the Satanic Black Colobus.

Lifespan: Colobus monkeys live up to 20 years in the wild and up to 30 in captivity

Size & Weight:  The Colobus weights as much as 17 to 32 lbs and is anywhere from 18-28 inches tall, not including their tail that can be between 20-40 inches long.

Habitat: Colobus monkeys live across Africa from Cameroon to Ethiopia. They are considered the most tree dwelling primate and live in forest of varying altitudes. They have even been known to inhabit bamboo forests.

Family Life: Colobus monkeys live in troops of about 5-10 monkeys. The groups usually consist of a dominant male, several females, and offspring. Colobus monkeys are highly territorial and keep clear boundaries for their troops. Fights over mates often occure.

Diet: Colobus monkeys eat leaves and prefer the tender young leafs found at the tops of the trees.
