Pictures of Coyotes and information about them.
Lifespan: Coyotes live to be about 10 years old in the wild and will live to be around 17 years old in captivity.
Size & Weight: Coyotes grow to be about 2 ft tall at the shoulder, about 2.5 to 3 ft long, and weigh about 20-35 lbs.
Habitat: Because Coyotes are excellent scavengers and can live off of nearly any kind of food, they are found all over North America. Though coyotes prefer open grass land and praries, they have adapted to forest environments and other sub optimal habitats.
Family Life: Coyotes can be found traveling alone, in pairs, or in packs. They mate in Janruary, February, and March. Their litters usually consist of 2-6 pups that leave the safety of the den and venture out on their own by the age of 1 or 2.
Diet: Coyotes are opportunistic eaters and will eat whatever food is available including carrion (already dead things). They will eat rodents, fruit, woodchucks, rabbits, and other small prey. If they hunt in packs they are willing to hunt bigger prey. Coyotes have even been known to eat out of people's garbage, or eat people's pets.
Coyotes only use their dens when they have pups
Coyotes have been known to burrow out and use the dens of other den animals.
