Hawaiian Hawk

Hawaiian Hawk
Hawaiian Hawk pictures (Buteo solitarius), known in Hawaiian as 'IO Kapono. This bird is a male.

This endangered endemic Hawaiian bird is found mainly on Hawaii island. They are frequently seen soaring on thermals in the island sky. In the wild they eat insects, small mammals, and birds. In the zoos, they're typically fed mice and beef. Male hawks are called tiercels because they are about one-third smaller than females.
