Pictures of horses.
Species: There are three species of horse, the Tarpan, Mongolian Wild, and Domesticated horse. The Tarpan and Mongolian Wild horse are true wild horses that were never domesticated. Breeds such as Mustangs, are merely feral.
Lifespan: Domestic horses usually live to be 25-30 years old, though there have been some that have lived as long as 40 years! Wild horses generally have a shorter life expectancy of 10 years.
Size & Weight: The smallest horse is a miniature domestic horse called the Falabella. It is merely 32" tall at the withers (shoulders). The largest horse is the Shire, standing over 5ft tall at the withers!
Habitat: Most horses that are not living in captivity prefer open plains.
Diet: Wild horses will eat grass, leaves, and the occassional fruit and branches.
Family Life: Wild horses live in herds that are lead by the dominant male. Often horses will fight to find their place in a herd and find out who is more dominant than another.
Horses have been around for 45-50 million years!
Horses are measured in "hands", which is roughly the width of a mans hand and is considered 4 inches!
