Large whirligig beetle
Large whirligig beetles (family Gyrinidae, species Dineutus) are about half an inch long (9-15mm), and live on the surface film of ponds and slow streams. I found these on the pond at my house, near the shore. They live throughout North America. Taken in Phillipston, Massachusetts with my Canon 5D and a Sigma 150mm macro lens. #23505. 9/3/2007. Resolution: 800x593.
