Lemur Pictures, Pictures of Lemurs

Pictures of eight different species of lemurs, including the ring-tailed lemur and the black-and-white ruffed lemur.

Grooming is an important part of lemur social interaction. It forges and reinforces bonds between group members, and is used to demonstrate rank and dominance. In most primates, grooming involves combing through the fur with hands and removing dirt and insects. Lemurs don't use their hands, however. Instead, they comb through fur with their modified lower front teeth.

Lemurs are not true monkey. Instead, they are prosimians, which literally means "pre-monkeys". They are living ancestors of the earliest primates.
