Pictures of Nicobar Pigeons (Caloenas nicobaria), which are endangered.
This large pigeon is threatened in its Southeast Asian homeland of the Nicobar islands off the eastern coast of India and some of the uninhabited islands of Indonesia. They nest in colonies in dense forests. The young will remain in the nest for three months. Seeds, fruits, and some invertebrates make up their diet. They have a prominent white tail that may serve as a taillight, keeping flocks together when corssing the sea at dawn and dusk.
