Pictures of Red Admirals
All Photos : Insects : Butterflies : Red Admirals
Pictures of red admiral butterflies (species Vanessa Atalanta).

This species is native to almost all of North America, including most of Canada, all of the continental US, and Mexico. When the wings are open you can see red-orange slashes and white spots on the outer portion of the forewing. The outside of the hindwing has another red-orange stripe.

This guy was really hard to take a picture of, because he refused to hold still (inconsiderate bug). Taken in Phillipston, Massachusetts with my Canon 5D and a Sigma 150mm macro lens. Resolution: 1297x1071.
