Female Red Foxes, or Vixens, dig underground dens or take over previously excavated dens of other animals. The dens often have more than one entrance and can be up to 40 feet long.
Red Foxes are highly valued by foxhunters for their craftiness and ability to elude hounds longer than gray foxes. Others recognize the importance for being a predator of small vermin like rats and mice. However, some farmers regard them as a nuisance for their persistent raids on poultry and other small livestock.
