Animal: Red Panda (Ailuridae)
Species: The Red Panda is it's own species and family called Ailuridae. In the past had been categorized with bears and also the same family as racoons.There are two subspecies are red panda, the Western Red Panda and Sayan's Red Panda.
Lifespan: The red panda lives to be about 8 years old in the wild.
Size: The red panda is about the size of a large house cat. They are between 7-15 lbs and are about 3-4 ft long, including their tail.
Habitat: Red pandas live in the rainy, high altitude, forests of central China, Nepal, and Burma. They spend most of their time in trees and prefer shady, cool, places as they are very heat sensitive.
Family Life: For the most part, red pandas are solitary, shy animals that prefer to live ont heir own. They mark their territory with their scent glands and urine. Between December and February, red pandas find partners and mate. Once a female panda is pregnant, the males and females go their separate ways again. After a gestation period of about 140 days the Pandas are born in a hollowed out tree that the mother fashions as a nest. Baby red pandas stay with their mothers until the next mating season, and then they go off on their own.
Diet: Red pandas eat bamboo, fruits, shoots, leaves, and acorns.

Adult red panda's feet are covered in hair to hep them climb on slippery surfaces
