Animal: Red wolf

Species: The scientific name for the Red wolf is Canis lupus rufus.

Lifespan: The Red wolf lives 5-7 years int he wild and up to 15 years in captivity.

Size & Weight: Red wolves are about 2ft tall at the shoulder and weigh 50-80 lbs.

Diet: Red wolves eat small mammals such as rodents, rabbits, and birds. They also eat insects, vegetation, and ocassionally large prey, such as deer.

Habitat: Currently, the only places that Red wolves live int he wild are in refuges in northeastern North Carolina.

Family Life: Red wolves are very private, shy animals. They typically live in hunt alone or in small packs that consist of a mating pair and their offspring. Red wolves tend to be monogamous. The young leave their parents before they turn 2 years old.
