Rhinocerous hornbill

Rhinocerous hornbill
Pictures of Rhinoceros Hornbills (Bucerous rhinocerous), which live in Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia. They are endangered.

This hornbill has an interesting way to protect its young before they can fly: the mother-to-be finds a hole in a tree and then uses mud to build a wall to cover the hole. The female leaves only a small opening in the mud to allow the male to bring her food. This keeps the hornbill safe from all predators except man, which threatens their environment with logging and poaching.
