Spotted Munia

Spotted Munia
Spotted Munia pictures, Ricebird pictures (lonchura Punctulata).

Widely distributed in Ceylon, India, Nepal, Burma, Malaysia, Indochinese region and in the Phillippines. They were introduced to Hawaii by Dr. Hillebrand around 1865. This species feeds on seeds of weeds, grasses, and green rice.

They're common in areas where rice is grown, which is why they're often called a ricebird. Ricebird, however, can refer to several other species, as well.
