Species: The domestic sheeps scientific name is Ovis aries. Domestic sheep are descendants of a wild sheep called the Mouflon. Now, there are over 200 breeds of domestic sheep!
Lifespan: A domestic sheep lives 8-15 years.
Size & Weight: The largest breed of sheep is the Lincoln sheep. A male Lincoln can weigh up to 350 lbs! One of the smallest breeds of sheep is the Miniature Southdown. Mini Southdowns are 19-24" tall!
Habitat: Domestic sheep are used for their fleece, meat, and sometimes milk, and are kept on farms all over the world.
Diet: Sheep are ruminants and grazers. They eat grass, weeds, and other vegetation. In the winter, they are fed hay.
Family Life: Sheep are animals of prey and, despite their domestication, still prefer to travel in flocks and follow their leader to new pastures. The leader of the group is chosen by their physical strength and aggressiveness.
Sheep have very good hearing, but poor eyesight!
Sheep only have a set of lower teeth!
