Water snakes, like those in these photos, all look alike from above, but they have different belly markings. Water snakes tend not to be confrontational, and would generally rather flee from danger. When cornered, they'll bite you and release a foul smelling musk from the base of their tail.

Water snakes grow up to 3.5 feet long.
