Animal: Zebra
Species: There are three species of Zebra, the Plain's, Grevy's, and Mountain zebra.
Lifespan: The agerave lifespan of a zebra is about 20 years, though in captivity they can live as long as 35-40 years!
Size & Weight: The Mountain zebra is the smallest species of zebra. It weigh 550-800 lbs and is between 5-6 ft in length. The largest species of zebra is the Grevy's zebra, weighing 779-900+ lbs and 9 ft in length.
Habitat: Zebras live in eastern and southern Africa. Grevy's Zebra can be found roaming the arid subdesert grasslands. Most zebras, however, inhabit grasslands and savannas.
Diet: Zebras are herbavores and eat primarily grasses, but sometimes branches, leaves, and other leafy vegetation.
Family Life: Zebras are very social herd animals that live in groups called herds. Their herds consist of a stallion (male dominant zebra), a few mares (female zebras), and their offspring. During certain parts of the year the smaller herds band together to form a large herd of hundreds of zebras, only to eventually disband into their smaller family units once again. Zebras are vocal and communicate with one another using sounds, and also facial expressions!
